FIFTH ORDER OF BUSINESS -- CELL PHONES!

01 March 2014, Vol.1, No.11 > 5th ORDER OF BUSINESS – CELL PHONES

‘CELL PHONE’ SERVICE
FOR THE WHOLE COUNTY!

As everyone in Pocahontas County knows, using Frontier Communications is about a half-step away from using a tin-can on a string as a lot of us did during childhood!  And as far as being a so-called ‘Internet provider’forget it!  Frontier is about as fast as sending ‘smoke signals’ from mountain-top to mountain-top!   For those that can remember, Frontier’s ‘Internet-service’ is about as slow as the old 56-modems when the Internet first became public!

Also for those that can remember, Pocahontas County got ‘stuck’, or more accurately, ‘got-shafted’, with Frontier thanks to former county commissioner Reta Griffith, now an executive with Frontier, who fomented Frontier upon the county and gave Frontier a virtual monopoly over the communications of this county!  And for those that may have read dear-ole-Reta’s condescending snippet on the inside cover of the latest phone directory, you will see where she claims that the ‘Frontier team are your neighbors …[who] work so hard to deliver the highest-quality service possible’ – ad nauseam!  A little less hypocrisy and a more candid review would reveal that the so-called ‘Frontier team’ delivers one of the worst ‘Internet services’ in the country, yet delivers the highest-possible-profits to Frontier Communications!  How many folks forced to use Frontier in this county realize that they are paying TWICE THE BASIC SERVICE CHARGES as those in other counties in West Virginia with larger populations?  Because Pocahontas County has a small population, we are being charged twice as much to have a telephone in our homes – whether we use it or not!  And let's not forget all those still waiting for 'Internet' service!

So not only does Pocahontas County need ANOTHER COMMUNICATIONS company to compete with Frontier – but this county needs ‘CELL PHONE’  SERVICE for the entire county!  With the severe weather conditions now being experienced via ‘Global Warming – Climate Change’, it is becoming too dangerous not having a cell-phone when crossing the high mountains coming into and out of this county!   Have you been across Cheat or Kennisen Mountains lately – as the only vehicle on the road – during a snowstorm or heavy fog?  If so, then you know the value of having a ‘cell-phone’ that can provide service!

And as for those ‘naysayers’ who would pretend that ‘Cell Phone’ service countywide would ‘interfere’ with the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) in Green Bank – boohoo!  It’s a myth!  From the time that the NRAO was established in the mid-1940s for SETI (i.e., Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence), then changed to ‘listening to the Stars’the total sound that has been accumulated is that of a single ‘PIN’ dropping in a room!  So when it comes to the lives & safety of the Citizens of this county being DENIED ‘Cell Phone’ service – it’s the NRAO that is ‘interfering’ with all of us Citizens and modern technology!

And speaking of modern-technology, there is no real reason why ‘Cell Phone’ service cannot be provided to all Citizens of Pocahontas County regardless of location!  How many of you already have friends & family in other states who ONLY have their ‘Cell Phones’ and don’t even have to pay service charges anymore for a ‘house-phone’?

There are two candidates for county commission, NORMAN LEE ALDERMAN (REP-SD) and PATTI HEINEMANN (DEM-ND) that have proclaimed that they will initiate a ‘Board of Inquiry’ in January 2015, at the first meeting of the new county commission, if YOU choose to elect them, to obtain another communications company for this county – and begin the process to have ‘Cell Phone’ service everywhere in Pocahontas County as early as possible!

NORMAN LEE ALDERMAN (REP-SD)  &  PATTI HEINEMANN (DEM-ND) have told what they stand for
and the type of progress that they can bring to this county…So

Just say ‘NO’ to those who want to keep this county in Poverty & Pauperism – and
Just SAY ‘YES’ to real Progress & Prosperity for the future!

Therefore on Primary Day – YOU have a chance to elect two persons that will always put YOU first!  They know that:

THE GREATER COMMON GOOD ALWAYS COMES BEFORE SELF OR ANY SELF-SERVING SPECIAL INTEREST!
