WHY WERE PARTS EDITED
FROM CANDIDATES STATEMENTS?

In the 24 April 2014 issue of The Pocahontas Times weekly newspaper, candidates were told that they could each submit a biographical statement with a maximum of 500 words – along with a photograph.  Yet upon a review of the one submitted by PATTI HEINEMANN, Commission Candidate – Northern District, it seems that ‘someone’ at the Times edited part of what she wanted included, and did so without first conferring with her!

Here at the Editorial Staff for The Pocahontas Crier, an Internet News Service with the added twist of a traditional ‘muckraking’ publication, we found it rather strange that the Times would disrespect the FIRST AMENDMENT & FREEDOM OF SPEECH & THE PRESS for a candidate for public office who must take an ‘Oath-of-Office’ to uphold the very ‘Freedoms’ in the Bill of Rights that the Times is now trampling upon!  But what else is new at the Times, whether in the hands of Prices, McNeels, Pritts, & now corporate – it has always remained the same – the Times has NEVER placed THE COMMON GOOD BEFORE SELF OR ANY SPECIAL INTERESTSit’s always placed ‘special interests’ before We The People!

The biographical statement of PATTI HEINEMANN was first published here on 20 March 2014, Vol.1-No.20, and is republished below with the added yellow-marker within for the sections OMITTED by the Times – followed by what we believe are the reasons the Times again catered to the titular-head of the ‘Poverty Preservation Society’ (PPS)!

IN THE NORTHERN DISTRICT…

THE CRIER ENDORSES:

PATTI HEINEMANN (DEM)
of Green Bank!

Patti is proud she is a direct descendant of Thomas McLaughlin, one of the original families from Ireland that settled in this part of the Appalachia following the War Between the States.  She and her husband, Jerry, have known each other the whole of their lives since they were born in the same town on the same street and walked to Bible School together.  Following his undergraduate degree, they were married and raised 10 children, 7 boys & 3 girls, seven of whom were raised in this county, and all are college educated & married with families of their own, totaling 25 grandchildren to date.

Education & Experience-wise

As for education, Patti has a Masters Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications & Journalism, and has over 25 years experience in journalism, public relations, and organizational administration.  She’s been a lifelong activist for Social Justice.  What made her decide to run for County Commission, at the urging of friends & family, was the total lack of Ethics that she has seen taking place within this county in the last two decades!  Public servants seem to want to advance themselves and their careers at the expense of the Citizen-Taxpayer whom they are suppose to serve!  As a direct & proximate result, Patti has set forth a series of important Issues that she believes will advance this county into a fit place to live and raise a family.

A key issue facing this county is the need for a county economic development authority instead of a private corporation from Greenbrier County collecting all our money & land!  When Patti & her husband established a sewing enterprise to make T-Shirts in Durbin at the urging of the late Carlos Jones, they employed 15 persons at $5.00 per/hour with health insurance after 3 months when the minimum-wage was only $3.50 p/hr.  In less than a month a local banker, former commissioner & former sheriff forced Carlos Jones to ‘lock-out’ the new business, or be put out of business himself, since no one else was offering such wages & benefits!

Other issues needing resolution include: (1) Ending all solid waste authority lawsuits & expunging all judgments & liens!  (2) Obtaining ‘Cell-Service’ for the entire county, and another communications company besides Frontier!  (3) ‘Wind Turbines’ as a source of electricity!  (4) NO ‘FRACKING’ – EVER – Clean Water is too precious to pollute!  (5) Audit all county agencies pursuant to Federal Law!  (6) A Citizen-Referendum on where excess county funds should be spent!  (7) Establishing Snowshoe & Silver Creek as a CO-OP business!

This election we have a chance to elect two Righteous persons at the same time to the county commission to restore an Ethical Local Government, stemming from the Common Law, based upon the Divine Laws!  YOU have a chance to make history & Vote for Social Justice!  May Our Creator Bless all your efforts accordingly.

Thank you indeed!  See:

Now what is in yellow-marker above is what the Times left out!  Now we can understand the Times not wanting to mention either website for The Pocahontas Commentator or The Pocahontas Crier since the Times considers both Internet News Services as competitors at the county level – but WHY would the Times leave out what PATTI experienced trying to start a business in this county, starting off employing 15 persons, and beginning training for another 15 persons for a second shift in the first month of operations?  Only to have a local banker leading the pack to stop the new business – you remember, don’t you Phil?

Well the answer lies in the footnote also published on 20 March 2014, Vol.1-No.20, as repringed below – and the commentary following:

[Editorial Staff Note: For those who have asked, the ‘local banker, former commissioner & former sheriff [that] forced Carlos Jones to ‘lock-out’ the new business, or be put out of business himself’…was none other than Phillip Cain of the then First National Bank & Pocahontas Development Authority (PDA); former commissioner Dana Moyers who was forced to resign after a Citizen-Taxpayer petition & trial before a three-judge panel over numerous charges stemming from the ‘Howes Leather’ fiasco; and former sheriff Jerry Dale who was disgraced after lying under oath in the first trial against Jacob Beard when Beard was falsely charged & imprisoned over the ‘Rainbow Killings’!  And this is the same ‘Phil Cain’ that has had his hands in almost everything in this county in the past 25 years, and is rumored to be the recognized titular head of the Pocahontas County ‘Poverty Preservation Society’ for everyone but himself and his fellow cronies!]

THAT’S RIGHT…MONEY TALKS…
&…TRUTH WALKS!

That’s right, the Times never mentions any corruption, or any type of corruption within Pocahontas County, regardless if it’s the theft of public land, resources, or funds by public officials or ‘quasi-government’ officials – or even the rape, pillage and plunder of so-called ‘law-enforcement’ officials – even when it stares the Times right in the face – for fear of loosing a buck or two in advertising, especially when it comes from a bank-ad on their front page!  But when is ENOUGH, ever ENOUGH – to the point of making a real change and real different for the COMMON FOLK?

The first duty of government, at any level, is to protect the necessities of life, i.e., Food, Clothing & Shelter, of its Citizens – and not to secure the highest possible profits for moneylenders and profiteers!

But in this county for the past three-decades, the SAME FOLKS have time & again stuffed their own-pockets at the expense of the many – whether in secret, or in the open – as set forth in the series entitled, ‘ENDING THE POVERTY PRESERVATION SOCIETY’, in Vol.1-No.5 & No.6, of this Internet News Service.  Whether it was trying to steal the federal funds from Cranberry Glades; to the actual theft of Denmar State Hospital; to the toxic-fiasco at Howes Leather; to the grant-money-scam of the West Virginia Shoe Company; to the give-away of public-land, resources & county-income to the self-serving Greenbrier Valley Economic Development Corporation (GVEDC);  to the latest scheme to ‘steal’ the property in downtown Marlinton to COLLECT-RENTAL-INCOME for the GVEDC the same few folks keep popping up like a gnat or a fly at a picnic!

There is absolutely NO COMPARISON between the local banks here in Pocahontas County compared to the local banks in Greenbrier County!  In Greenbrier, the banks WILL WORK WITH NEW BUSINESSES – they are progressive and know a good-thing when they see it – and they are THRIVING IN LEWISBURG while the local banks here will not assist new ideas!  Why?  Because the local banks in this county are GREEDY – their boards of directors (BOD) are loaded with the owners of the local businesses and they LIKE THINGS THE WAY THEY ARE HERE FOR THEMSELVES – they want no competition, they want ‘no middleclass’, they only want THEMSELVES AT THE TOP and everyone else at the bottom – and few in between!

Almost two-decades ago, the Pocahontas County Organic Farmers Organization (PCOFO) offered a two-fold SELF-SUSTAINING proposal for Small Farms to expand their family-income in one or both ways:  (1) grow organic potatoes, peppers, and tomatoes from May – October; and, (2) raise FISH from fingerlings to full-grown for all farms with year-round-streams!  Since one-seed-stock potato yields from ten-fourteen tablestock the PCOFO was provided a tentative contract with a major food-processing facility that promised to build a processing plant here in this county to employ upwards to 100 personsfull time! The processing-plant needed at least 3-Million pounds of potatoes to operate annually; and with the cold storage facilities, fresh-farm-raised-fish could be processed as well – thus year-round income for all farms with flowing streams!

THE DRAWBACK…it wasn’t funding since 80% was federal, 20% local – it was the WV Department of Agriculture that claimed that POCAHONTAS, RANDOLPH & PENDLETON counties ARE DESIGNATED ‘TOURIST’ COUNTIES and therefore no industry could be established!  And then you wonder WHY folks are leaving this county for lack of work, low-wages, and no opportunities!  And to add insult to injury, the local banks would not even fund $100K, short term, to set up Aquaculture-fish-farms on county farms with a sufficient year-round water supply to raise fresh water fish – even when shown that the banks could be repaid in just one year!  The experts from Virginia walked away in shock at the total ‘stupidity’ of the local bank delegation – that said, ‘this is cattle-country…we don’t know about raising fish’!  The meeting with the PCOFO was held in the office of the late Dean Jones in Marlinton.  Need we say who one of the ‘bank-representatives’ was – you know, the same one on the former PDA, now with the GVEDC, and involved in the ‘rebuild’ of Marlinton? Oh, yeah, the same one that forced Carlos Jones to ‘lock-out’ PATTI HEINEMANN from establishing the Durbin Sewing Works to make T-Shirts for silk-screening companies!  That’s the kind of ‘economic-development’ that the titular-head of the ‘Poverty Preservation Society’ wants for this county – ALL IN THEIR HANDS…or none at all!

One last thought, what do you really think – when all the clichés are over with about supporting farming & logging – when the federal government ENDS FARM SUBSIDIES because of yet another war?  These latest foreign wars have already cost untold MILLIONS OF FOLKS to loose the ‘Food-Stamp’ subsidies for all those on a ‘fixed-income’ – but what if & when the ‘Farm-Subsidies’ are cut off, and the ‘timber-giveaways’ of millions-of-board-feet to the area sawmills – what then?  Where will the ‘minimum-wage’ jobs go then?  How long will Pocahontas remain ‘pristine’, and who will be left here to see any of it when our new ‘masser’ Donald Trump gets his Snowshoe-RAD, a new ‘four-lane’ down the valley of Rt.92, and who knows what’s next…from the self-styled ‘developer’?

THAT’S WHY…

THIS TIME…there’s no excuse…
 IT’S YOUR CHOICE…
TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER!

Just say ‘NO’ to those who want to keep this county in Poverty & Pauperism

Just say ‘YES’ to real Progress & Prosperity for the future!
