FOURTEENTH ORDER OF BUSINESS – HUMANE SOCIETY!

If anything in this county is in need of our full community support – it’s the Pocahontas County Humane Society – a ‘No Kill’ animal shelter that does everything in its power to find homes for abandoned household pets that become ‘outcasts’ the minute any given family runs into financial difficulty!  The usual method of disposal followed by folks is to take their ‘pet’ to some other area and ‘dump-them-off’ along the side of a road in a wooded area – as if the poor-creature after being a household pet would know what to do for itself?  But such is the cruelty & ‘knowledge-of-wickedness’ in the innermost feelings & mindset of mankind – or at least a faction of mankind!  Would that we could drop the ‘owners’, who abandon their ‘pets’, off in the middle of Death Valley or a bayou in Louisiana filled with alligators!

How a person treats animals in general, and household pets in particular, is a great indicator as to the type of character that any given person possesses – for after all, doesn’t the Bible tell us that mankind is to be the STEWARDS over the Earth, the environment & the animals?  Therefore taking care of animals is a Duty & Responsibility placed upon each of us by Our Creator.  And can anyone deny that a household pet does not return that love & care a hundred-fold to our one!  It is now a known fact that the ‘purring’ of a cat is a ‘Healing-Frequency’ for mankind that maintains our health & help heals our ailments!  And it is also a known fact now that both dogs & cats can sense whether a ‘body-mole’ on any given person is cancerous or not!  So the more we think we know the more there is to learn!

It is also a known fact that the longer an animal is locked in a cage, away from the human touch & attention, the faster it will deteriorate mentally & physically and the faster it will suffer loneliness inwardly towards its own death!  Wasn’t this also found to be the case with prisoners locked in solitary confinement?  Our Creator gave us household pets to be our ‘friends’ and it’s a proven fact that Senior Citizens enjoy the company of pets as much as they did their children when the family was together!

The service that the Pocahontas County Humane Society provides this county is second to none since they assist those on a ‘fixed-income’ by sharing in the cost to have a pet neutered or spayed by certified Veterinarians.  The County Humane Society also cares for as many animals as they can safely house & feed – even paying out of their own pockets since they only receive funds to handle a limited number of animals – when in fact in any given week they handle as many as twice what they are supposed to care for since abandonment seems to come in waves depending on circumstances.

County Commission candidates NORMAN LEE ALDERMAN (Rep-SD) and PATTI HEINEMANN (Dem-ND) are the only candidates fully committed to seeing the Pocahontas County Humane Society FULLY FUNDED whenever the need arises to care for more animals than allocated – just as the Sheriff is able to do with his temporary animal shelter!

THAT’S WHY…
